The Turk's Head Chop HouseParliament Street
One of several good pubs in this street, you'll want to check out the Turk's Head if you are staying in The Parliament, The Paramount, The Clarence or the Bridge House. The richly coloured decor, with a slightly Byzantine theme, together with the central bar, give this place an ambience all of its own, where mingling around the bar counter or hiding in an alcove are both possibilities. The crowd is young professional, but varied, and tourists seem to find it often. This may be because it's the kind of place where the bar staff are largely tourists themselves, working their way through a study or sabbatical year in Dublin. They are all friendly, polite and efficient though. One of the great things about the Turk's Head is that the management actually try to do things to attract punters. Drinks promotions (in as far as they are allowed by our increasingly draconian nanny state), free live music and other events are common. Keep an eye on the promotional posters in the windows. I haven't eaten in the Turk's Head but, judging by the number who do, the food is good and popular at lunchtime and in the early evening. Well worth a visit. Highly suitable for groups. |
